Poppin Chris is one of Rwanda's top Hip Hop Artists. He's heavily involved in the dance scene in Kigali and believes in the power of dance, and it's ability to inspire youth through movement to put Rwanda on the map as a hub for modern art.
If you're interested in dance, come spend a day with Chris at the youth center where he trains. He will show you the latest dances he's working on and teach according to your skill level. His goal is to make you enjoy music. He'll share with you his background as a choreographer and a dancer, and what dance means to him.
If you are a professional or skilled dancer or choreographer, Chris would love to see what you bring to the table!
"Creativity is about using your mind and energy to bring out something good. You have to think big. It’s hard work, and it all comes down to the way you think and the time you spend."

About Poppin Chris
Chris was born in the DRC (Democratic republic of Congo) to a Kenyan father and Rwandan mother. Both parents passed away when he was only five, leaving he and his two brothers to be raised by their grandmother.
Chris has been passionate about dance nearly all of his life, having started getting involved at the age of four. He recalls that it was his uncle - now living in South Africa as a singer - who taught him to dance and inspired him. Chris made this his career and dreams of taking dance to another level in Rwanda.
Chris has been dancing for the past 18 years and now has his own group called the Krest Crew. In 2014 he was selected as a teacher of dance at Ecole Francaise Saint Expery Kigali. That same year, he was selected as a dance teacher at Ecole Belge de Kigali, where he teaches hip-hop dance today.
Krest Crew is one of Kigali's most well known dance groups, and was chosen to represent Rwanda in the 2015 Peace One Day Youth Celebration sponsored by the United Nations. The aim of the event is to empower young people to take action in their homes, schools, and communities in the name of peace and reconciliation (see video below).
